The Holy Spirit, Our Guide

Have you ever been so frustrated because you didn't know what to do in life?  Have you ever had to make a decision and was unsure about it? When you had to make these decisions, did you go to the Bible and NOT find what you were looking for? For example: you need to buy a car and you had to make a choice between which one to buy. You go to the Bible and look up "Honda Accord," but can only find the word "accord," and it has nothing to do with a car. So, you become frustrated... So, you internally yell, "what do I do?"

There are many things in life for which we ABSOLUTELY need the leading of the Holy Spirit - operating in the Gifts of the Spirit, living supernaturally, developing ministry, studying the Word of God, our jobs, our marriages, dating, etc.

Since that is the case, it is important to know that the Holy Spirit is available to give you direction.

"...those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God" (Romans 8:14). "... it seemed good to the Holy Spirit..." (Acts 15:21a) "...the Holy Spirit said..." (Acts 13:2b) "Jesus was led up by the Spirit" (Matthew 4:1a) "Then the Spirit said to Philip..." (Acts 8:29a) "which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit..." (1 Cor. 2:13)

Scriptures go on and on about being led by, spoken to by, and taught by the Holy Spirit. Believers have no business running on and doing whatever whenever when the Governor of Heaven lives inside of each of us. The problem is, primarily, that we have not been taught "how to be led by the Holy Spirit." Some believers have been taught that God "wants to guide us by His Spirit," but never "how."

Today, I want to share some quick pointers for "being led by the Spirit of God."

When you decide to be led by the Spirit, you are making a commitment to receiving more of the Holy Spirit, or more accurately, giving more of yourself to the Holy Spirit. So, with that in mind, let's start this amazing journey with these pointers:

Begin by saying...

Our words set the course for whatever we are going to do for God. Even our salvation starts with words - "who ever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved..." When the disciples were in theupper room and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, they begin to "speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." If we want to be led by the Spirit, it begins with words. It begins with words in our own understanding and it begins with us releasing the flow of supernatural utterance that goes beyond our understanding.  Start today.

Say this, "in the name of Jesus, I choose to be led by the Spirit of God."  That one statement is resetting your heart toward what God wants to do.

Become aware of "inward nudges"

The Holy Spirit frequently leads by inward nudges. This is His primary method of leading. When you make a decision, check in with Him... "Holy Spirit, what do you think of this?"  These frequent check-ins will teach us to be so aware of Him.

Become aware of a "stream of words that begin to flow in your own thoughts (but 'feel' deeper)"

Ask the Father a question, then wait. As a stream of words begin to flow back to you, write them down. When you ask in the name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit will begin to speak. However, His words often sound like your own thoughts, this is why it's so important to write and journal. Only time and consistency will teach us how to become more aware of what is God and what is us. Write, write, write... now compare what you journal to scripture and also submit what you're writing to a trusted leader who has proven over time that he/she knows the voice of the Holy Spirit. Look for fruit. If the person is stable and has proven that God uses them, lean into them as mentors. But always journal, and always compare what you are journaling to the Bible.

When Holy Spirit speaks, the voice will sound like your own thoughts, but they'll "feel" like they're coming from your belly instead of your head. It'll "feel" deeper. Through journaling, you'll learn this difference.

Journal, journal, journal, journal - every, single day

And, journaling.  I've already mentioned it above. Don't miss a day (or try not to) - I've missed many through the years, but I try not to.

Journaling will keep us on top of what God wants us to do, pray for who God wants us to pray, serve in the way we need to serve, etc. So, get a notebook or an app, put today's date at the top, and say, "Father, please speak to me in the Name of Jesus," and when you do, Holy Spirit will take what is said and speak it to you.

Oh, learn to be led by Holy Spirit.  You will be so glad that you did.

The Word Works, & It's All You Need

The Word of God works and it is all you need… Scripture isn’t just given to us so that we can sit around, read it, think about God, and then move on with our day.  God gave us scripture so that we can
